The Moeke family has been working in forestry for over 100 years, first laying down roots in Zeeland, Michigan. Our lifetime of tradition and wisdom has evolved with technology and we hope to provide the best management and services for our customers. Burt Moeke
Burt II first began his career in forestry alongside his father, Burt I, when they worked together in the family-owned logging operation. Afterwards, Burt went to Central Michigan University to study pre-forestry and shortly after went back to the family business. Later he went on to Memphis, TN to attend National Hardwood Lumber Association, School of Lumber Grading. Burt quickly excelled and became the Assistant Director of NHLA.
From there Burt went on to manage lumber yards in Tuscaloosa, AL. Burt then returned to Northern Michigan to pursue opening his own businesses in the lumber and logging industry. Burt Moeke Hardwoods was a successful sawmill located in Mancelona, MI and operated for 20+ years.
In "retirement" Burt has gone on to operate a small firewood operation with his son, Gerritt, where they are currently servicing all of Northern Michigan.
Gerritt Moeke
6th generation forester/logger. Experienced in all aspects of forestry and logging operations including; timberland inventory, grading of standing timber, hardwood veneer sales and selection, Michigan Qualified Forest Program forest management plan writing, long-term forest management, timber stand improvement, best management practices, and various silvicultural practices related to northern hardwood stands as well as softwood management. Additional experience in the operation of heavy equipment from skid-steer operation to John Deere 1110e forwarder operation.
